Join the River City Mixed Chorus and their special guests as they perform Unbreakable, written by Tony Award-nominated American composer Andrew Lippa. This epic choral and theatrical work first premiered in 2018 during the 40th anniversary season of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. Now, RCMC, in its own 40th season, will premiere the mixed chorus version of Lippa’s musical journey that spans 12 decades of LGBTQ+ history. The 14-movement, multi-media composition brings into focus unsung heroes, tragedies and triumphs, and ultimately the resilient spirit of a community that can only be described as unbreakable.
Donning our gay apparel and musical sparkle is a 40-year tradition for the River City Mixed Chorus, who performed their first holiday show in 1984. This year is no different as more than 140 singers take stage to perform 40 Years of Fa La La. This much anticipated holiday show features RCMC’s unique blend of delightful harmonies and choreographed shenanigans as they present new favorites and old classics! Expect the quiet joy of a cappella carols and exuberant rush of trumpets and timpani. Come help us celebrate 40 years, and fa-la-la into your holiday season with joy, love, and music!
This year's Christmas at the Cathedral is an exciting fusion of the old and new. Centered around J.S. Bach's famous advent cantata, No. 140 "Wachet Auf," the program will also include the world premiere of David Gardner's O Magnum Mysterium. Bookending this pairing of an iconic staple of the canon and a new composition are new arrangements of very old carols. Fresh takes on "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day," "Angels from the Realms of Glory," and "Sussex Carol" will complement traditional arrangements of "O Come, Emmanuel" and "What Sweeter Music." Capping off this classical Christmas will be Conrad Susa's A Christmas Garland, featuring carols for audience participation. Come prepared for a heart-warming kick-off to your Christmas season.

Mahler’s epic ode to Pan and the ushering in of summer is perfect for May in Omaha, opening with one of the most glorious, jaw-dropping brass fanfares in the symphonic repertoire. With features for mezzo-soprano, women and children’s choruses, trombone and a massive ensemble, you’ll see why Mahler was called back out to the podium twelve times at the premiere, and why the final movement has been described as “the most sublime in all symphonic literature.” A. Barron Breland, chorusmaster.

This concert will be a feast for both your ears and eyes as songs from the musical theater and pop genres that celebrate art and color and tell stories through visualization and landscapes are paired with visual works of art focused on self-expression, identity, and each person’s ability to create their own world through artistic expression. In addition to artwork from Joslyn’s permanent collection, A Pop of Color will also incorporate self-portraits from local LGBTQ+ youth. This is a truly unique and special event that you will not want to miss!
